University of Cambridge, UK- His voice is almost as iconic as his scientific theories. Almost instantly recognisable, it would be hard pressed to find a person on this planet that hadn’t heard Stephen Hawking’s unique voice.
But its not his voice, the sound is actually made from a text to speech programme that was created by Stephen’s technician, Sam Blackburn. This is what gives him his robotesque tone.
Although now Stephen has decided he would like a change, instead of looking and sounding like a two wheeled robot being controlled by a computer screen. Aheving recently upgraded his PC, Mr Hawking would like to sound a bit more human.
“We’re looking at lots of different voices. we’ve tried Morgan Freeman, Kanye West and Mr T. Its becoming quite apparent that Mr Hawking would like to become a little more ethnic.”
“They’re currently coming off a little hilarious, try this in Mr T’s voice, its one of Stephens most famous quotes, ‘My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.'” Sam giggled.
Sam’s jest is understandable, losing nearly all muscle function in his body after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease as a young man, Mr Hawkings voice has become his only outlet for his outstanding contributions to physics.
“We have a couple more in the pipeline.” Sam said, still laughing at the thought of Mr T. “Hes very excited to try them out, the voice of Barack Obama especially.”
