Very Hungry Caterpillar diagnosed with diabetes

CHILDREN and adults across the country were shocked today after it emerged childhood hero The Very Hungry Caterpillar has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The caterpillar, which has been eating non stop since its release in 1969, finally stumped up the courage to go and see his local physician after complaining of excessive hunger, blurred vision, fatigue and frequent urination.

“I just eat all of the bloody time.”, he said looking sorry for himself. “I’ve gotten so fat that I struggle to move, I can’t really do anything without getting out of breath, they had to wheel me here in a wheelbarrow.”

“I’m nearly 50 years old and my entire life has just been gorging on plants, fruit, chocolate, you name it. I’ll eat my way through just about anything.”

When brought him into the surgery, his doctor was ‘Shocked’ by what he saw in front of him.

“I would expect the average caterpillar to weight around two to three grams.”, said Dr. Rajiv Poppat. “This one weighs around two to three pounds. His BMI is literally off of the chart. He’s that overweight I’m not even sure how he’s still alive.”

After doing several blood tests to determine the cause of the caterpillars excessive eating, Dr. Poppat confirmed the caterpillar did indeed have type 2 diabetes.

He then gave the caterpillar diabetes controlling drugs and ordered him to regularly check his blood sugar levels.

“I’m not even sure how it took you so  long to realise that eating that much was not normal.”, he said.
